STATE OF THE NATION: PROTEST OR CHAOS

The situation of things currently happening in Nigeria is an eyesore and a menace that needed to be curbed as soon as possible. The recent government monetary policy is an action covered in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999) likewise the PUBLIC DISPLAY OF AFFECTION also known as PROTEST is another aspect covered under the section 45(1), section 40 of the 1999 amended Constitution which states “Every person shall be entitled to assemble freely and associate with other persons, and in particular he may form or belong to any political party, trade union or any other association”.

The current trend of mayhem, arson and  anarchy resulting from the effect of government order is not something to be overlooked.

A peaceful protest is welcomed by the government and permitted but we all know that there's no way we can have a peaceful protest in this country without hoodlums and thugs seizing that opportunity to perpetrate evils. Following the attacks on banks and government properties across the state, the height of it all is what happened in Sagamu, Ogun state. I wonder how a city will have 12 banks and the whole 12 banks were destroyed beyond recognition, setting of Poowerholding company (NEPA) and Local government secretariat on fire is an act of lawlessness in the state.

Youths, why do you indulge in an act that you can't control the outcome, will government be the one to suffer if those banks that were burnt are to shut down?, will government even feel it if alot of people should lose their jobs as a result of our unplanned mediocre act?, will government be the one to starve when the system fails?.

It's high time we need to learn the act of peaceful protest and know the right person to channel our anger towards. People are not meant to burn each other's properties or government properties all in the name of protest, I like to call it public display of solidarity affection but it won't be display of affection again if cars are burnt, if buildings were burnt, if people were hurt so let's get it right before we loose all that we have. The money ought to be spent on new infrastructure will have to be converted to reconstruction of the damage ones, Ain't we the one suffering at the end of it all?
