HELPLESS NOT HOPELESS

It was a rainy, thunderous night in the village of Kumolu, a village surrounded by hills. The villagers of Kumolu are known for their beautiful weaving skills and farming. The villagers lived harmoniously in peace, but that doesn’t negate the “bad eggs” among them, either. The sound of the heavy downpour could be felt across the village, and the whole village was already in their houses early because of the wind that precedes the rain. Mama Daniel is a petty trader and a widow who lost her husband a few weeks after giving birth to her only child. Her voice could be heard by neighbors as she beckoned to Daniel to help her clear the water that had flooded the house — the smell of wet earth, the sound of wind rattling the thatch, the flicker of a kerosene lamp as they cleared the water. Daniel was fast asleep, but his mother’s voice woke him up, and he was shivering because of the cold. They were able to scoop the water and save the furniture before his mother finally told him to go back ...
